MATE’s high-end foldable electric bikes provide users the ultimate experience in cycling versatility. Their success story started with a combined USD $24 million raised on crowdfunding platforms. Black was called upon to design the unboxing experience and create a line of private label maintenance products worthy of the most successful electric bike fundraise in history.
The Ultimate Experience
In the summer of 2016, MATE launched their original MATE bike on Indiegogo, and subsequently crowdfunded their MATE X bike, raising a combined USD $24 million and making MATE the most successfully crowdfunded electric bike in history.
Black was tasked with ideating and developing the packaging for the signature MATE and MATE X bikes. Since the customer journey is highlighted by the unboxing – an experience that some might argue is as important as the product itself – the team deliberated on how to create an unboxing experience that is as iconic as the product itself.
Alongside the packaging, Black ideated a series of private-label electric maintenance products that perfectly matched the core identity and tone of voice of MATE. Proudly Danish-designed and Danish-produced, the private label brand is CO2-neutral and sustainable, perfectly in line with MATE’s vision of sustainable electric mobility.
